Dr. phil. Michèle Hofmann is the head of the Research Center “Historical and Comparative Childhood and Youth Studies”. 2018–2021 she worked as a senior researcher (postdoc) at the Institute of Education, University of Zurich. Before joining the University of Zurich, she was a senior researcher and lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). Michèle Hofmann holds a master’s degree in history and a Ph.D. in the history of education from the University of Bern. In recent years, she has been a guest lecturer at the University of Basel, the University of Vienna, the Humboldt University of Berlin, the University of Fribourg, and the University of Education in Ludwigsburg as well as a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education. Her academic interests include the medicalization of education, the history of (special needs) education in Switzerland, and the history of childhood.
