The study focuses on investigating how the implementation of standardized exit examination systems affects students, teachers, schools, instruction, and the educational system. Taking the implementation of state-wide exit examinations (Zentralabitur) in the German states of Bremen and Hesse as a case study, we are able to analyze the change from a class-based to a state-wide examination system. The longitudinal study allows for a differentiated analysis of effects, taking different perspectives and key questions into account.
